Mark Melum is a resident of Middleton, WI and has over 14 years of banking experience ranging from community banking to regional banking. Mark graduated from University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 1993 with a Major in Business Administration with a Finance emphasis along with an Economics minor. He began his banking career as a Personal Banker with First Financial Bank in Stevens Point where he was named one of the top overall sales performers in the entire company in 1993 and 1994. Mark was then promoted to Branch Manager of the Merrill, WI office where he managed a $19,000,000 branch office and was ultimately responsible for loan and deposit growth and managing budgets and staff. As Branch Manager, Mark increased loan and deposit production to become the number one overall Branch Manager in the entire corporation in 1996, 1997 and 1998 consistently meeting and exceeding performance expectations while increasing dramatically the profitability of the Merrill, WI office.
In 1998, Associated Bank purchased First Financial Bank and Mark become Assistant Vice President- District Sales Manager for Associated Bank. His responsibilities included managing, supporting and developing all sales staff in 15 branches while maintaining personnel development, budgetary control and strategic management. He was a member of the Regional Executive Management and Planning Group, The Corporate Credit Review Committee, the Product Review and Development Team and The Pricing Committee. As District Sales Manager, Mark teamed with staff to increase loan and deposit growth to become ranked as the Top District Sales Manager in the Corporation based on number, dollar, and percentage of goal achievement in 2000.
In 2001, Mark was named Senior Vice President- Regional Sales Director for Associated Bank, a position he maintained until 2006. As senior manager he was responsible for over 350 staff members in over 40 offices where he was consistently ranked and recognized as a top performer in multiple areas of the bank. While managing multiple lines of the South Central Regional Bank, Mark was directly responsible for all consumer lending, mortgage, small business, deposit origination, investment services as well as implementing and directing the Sales Leadership Initiative in that region of Associated Bank. Mark was additionally responsible for all asset quality, staffing levels and strategic planning. As Senior VP, he was a member of many of Associated Bank’s key corporate and regional committees.
In 2006, Mark left Associated Bank to become a Senior Vice President for Johnson Bank Corporation in Racine, WI. Mark was responsible for the entire Consumer Banking Line of Business for Johnson Bank, a $4 billion bank. His direct responsibilities included oversight of consumer lending, deposit operations and call center. Mark’s primary focus was to build the consumer side of Johnson Bank. This included product development, vendor relations and management, budgeting, staffing, retail ALCO and pricing strategies, operating system oversight, all consumer lending and deposit training, the Licensing Banker program and overall compliance for the consumer area of the bank.
Mark is, and has been, involved in various civic and social activities in Greater Dane County. He completed the Wisconsin Bankers Association commercial lending course in DePere, WI in 1997, the Leadership Greater Madison Program in 2003, the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2005 and the Graduate School of Banking, Senior Management Seminar in 2006. Mark and his family currently live in Middleton, WI.
